Sherrington - A physiologist’s Contribution to Neuron Doctrine
Spinal reflex - late 1890’s he showed:
- Unidirectional flow of information
- if reticular then multidirectional
- Synaptic Delay
- if continuous “wire” then no delays
- Coordinated action of many synapses
- Both excitatory and inhibitory actions
- Only excitatory actions propagated while inhibitory actions “stabilized” the neuron
