How to Use the Brain Volume Explorer

Invoke the volume explorer by clicking on a brain volume icon in the left column of the table of available brain volumes. This will open a new BRAIN VOLUME EXPLORER window.

In the middle of the window is an image of a subsection of the volume. This is the Current View. The X, Y, and Z position indicators show the position of the lower-left corner of the current view relative to the lower-left corner of the start of the volume. Go to a new position in the volume by typing in new X, Y, and Z values and then clicking on Load View. You may also use Load View to return to the last view after playing a flipbook.

The brain volume icon is used to indicate network activity. It rotates while a new view is loading from the server. When recording, refrain from view requests while the brain volume icon is rotating. To abort a view request and stop the icon from rotating, simply click on it.

Use the movement arrows to shift the current view a fixed increment in a particular direction. X and Y icons shift 0.5 microns in the plane of section. The Z icons shift 1 section thickness in depth.

The Flipbook Recorder allows you to record a sequence of views and play them back without waiting for network transfers.
Click on the record button to begin recording a sequence of views. Click the button again to turn off recording. You can resume recording at the end of the sequence by turning recording on again.
Flip to the next section in the recorded sequence. This button is grayed when no sequence is recorded.
Click on the play button to animate a recorded sequence. The animation will swing continuously back and forth through the sequence until the button is clicked again. This button is grayed when no sequence is recorded.
Flip to the previous section in the recorded sequence. This button is grayed when no sequence is recorded.
Delete the recorded sequence from memory. This button is grayed when no sequence is recorded.
Use this button to enter a new value for the delay between each view of the sequence. The initial delay value is 0.5 seconds. Set it to a smaller value for faster play back.
